Re-use, Remix and Create

In the spirit of sharing our open educational resources, we are keen to see OpenLearn materials re-used and remixed, and also to see our users contributing their own educational content.

Re-use could take the form of

• Using some of our materials in the classroom
• Directing your students towards OpenLearn
• Encouraging use of the tools and content for interaction
• Drawing on the content in your own writing, study or research

If you do reuse our resources in these or other ways then please share your experiences with everyone else by reporting on what you did and why in a forum.

Remixing could take the form of

• Reworking, rewriting, translating OpenLearn units
• Remixing knowledge maps using the Compendium tool

What follows focuses on the practicalities of remixing and creating content.

You can work on OpenLearn materials locally then share what you have done with us by uploading your transformed materials. These new versions of units are shown alongside the original content so learners and educators can work through and study your enhanced/revised versions of our original content.

Alternatively you can work on OpenLearn materials directly within the LabSpace collaborating on the same material with others. These remixes are shown as new versions of units in the same way as those remixed locally and uploaded, as discussed above.

You can also create new units in similar ways to remixing existing OpenLearn materials.

As with re-use, if you do some re-mixing then do try to provide as much detail as you can in terms of a short description, the Learning outcomes and any other commentary on what the material is attempting to do and invite comments from others. Posting such comments in a forum or your Learning Journal will also hopefully start a dialogue around what you have done so that everyone can begin to learn more about what you are trying to teach and how you are trying to teach it.
